Truth is built. It rests on a foundation of consensus, on a shared understanding of reality. Truth is our lifeline. It helps us emerge from conflict and confront our differences honestly. It is the common ground on which a society can still stand, debate and understand itself. And yet…
We give up. As though everything were equally valid. As though opinion were worth as much as evidence, emotion as much as reason, and rumour as much as science. We cast aside the hierarchy of knowledge. We yield, often at the expense of democracy, to the easy appeal of propaganda that flatters our anger. But if we abandon truth, if we place all our faith in our emotions, then, day after day, we sow the seeds of a totalitarianism of opinion—a system that cannot be challenged, because it justifies every means in the name of its ends.
Truth does not impose itself. It must be sought. We move towards it. Truth is a course to follow, a star we never reach, but towards which we advance. And that is what makes it magnificent. Because it is a journey more than a status. A path more than a flag planted in the ground.
